What is a Rar file?
Rar files are WinRAR Compressed Archive - a widely used file compression and decompression utility. It was developed by Eugene Roshal, the RAR - "Roshal Archive - format is named in his honor. RAR is similar to the Zip compression format but is based on proprietary technology, and has a higher level of compression to what is possible with Zip. 7-Zip uses RAR algorithms. RAR can be used to compress a single file or to " pack" multiple files in a single archive. A popular feature of WinRAR format is the ability to split a large RAR file into smaller sub files. These small files can be rejoined later to recreate the original larger archive, which then can be decompressed.
